Jill Martin, a “Today” show contributing reporter, posted a video this week about losing her hair to chemotherapy and her emotions when wig shopping. In the video, Martin shows off her wig options, saying, “It’s hard. But … I feel like I could style it. It’s fun. It’s like playing dress-up. I’m dressing up as myself.”
We wish Jill Martin all the very best future health. And surely, we sympathize with her emotional response to having to incorporate a wig into her daily life. And indeed, we hate cancer wherever it strikes. But Guci Image is proud to be part of an industry where people can find their way to even a smidgen of normalcy by wearing hair.
The clients who come through the doors of our Paramus salon see us for a multitude of reasons. There is the very common male pattern baldness, women coming to us after a bought of alopecia, and surely people who have endured chemo treatments who want to have their hair back. Whether you are looking for extensions, male CTR units, and, yes, Lace Wigs or treatments to slow thinning or potentially promote growth, we can serve the populace in many ways.
Having been in the hair replacement business as long as we have, we know a hair wearer’s reasons for coming to us lie deeper than vanity. And these reasons are yours alone, not to be questioned by anyone. And, hell, if your reasons are purely vanity, who cares? You are entitled to be as vain as you like!
Imagine what it is like for a sportscaster, fashion expert, and host of a segment called “Ambush Makeover” to lose her hair to chemo from breast cancer, let alone HAVE breast cancer. We shouldn’t be surprised that Jill Martin, who wears all these professional hats and much more, became slightly emotional trying to make herself feel better. Let’s hope her Instagram post helps some other lady or man who has lost their hair, for whatever reason, feel a little better looking for a hairwear solution.
